Honoring the Life and Legacy of an Extraordinary Arizona Trial Attorney

Larry Debus was one of Arizona's most respected and accomplished trial attorneys, leaving behind a remarkable legacy spanning more than four decades of legal practice.

Known for his formidable courtroom presence, exceptional legal knowledge, and dedication to his clients, Mr. Debus built a reputation as one of Arizona's leading criminal defense attorneys. Throughout his distinguished career, he represented clients in some of the state's most significant and highly publicized legal matters.

His notable clients included country music legend Glen Campbell, Winnie Ruth Judd, whose case became one of the most famous in Arizona history, and numerous professional athletes and other prominent individuals.

Before becoming an attorney, Mr. Debus served as a detective with the Phoenix Police Department and participated in the investigation involving Ernesto Miranda, whose case ultimately led to the landmark United States Supreme Court decision establishing the Miranda warning requirements.

Mr. Debus received numerous professional honors throughout his career, including recognition in The Best Lawyers in America for 33 years. He was also recognized by Phoenix Magazine and The Arizona Republic for his outstanding legal work and was profiled by Phoenix Magazine as "The Go-To Guy."

In addition to his trial practice, Mr. Debus was actively involved in the legal community. He served as President of Arizona Attorneys for Criminal Justice and was a Fellow of the American Board of Criminal Lawyers. He also shared his experience and knowledge through presentations and legal education programs.

Outside the courtroom, Mr. Debus was an accomplished sailor who traveled extensively throughout the Pacific, Mediterranean, and Caribbean.

A Lasting Legacy

Larry Debus passed away in 2021. His contributions to Arizona's legal community and the firm's history remain an important part of the legacy of Debus & Kazan, Ltd.
